Here’s How Your Office Is Killing Productivity

Productivity is a business buzzword that you should pay attention to. If your employees aren’t productive, you aren’t going to get very far. You need a motivated team that share your goals for the business and are willing to work hard to meet them. Unfortunately, that’s often easier said than done. There are so many reasons why productivity can suffer, it might be that people aren’t getting paid well enough or you don’t treat them with respect and reward their hard work. But often, it’s because their work environment is wrong. The office environment and the way that it is set up has such a massive impact on productivity so if you’re struggling to keep everybody motivated, it’s worth looking into. These are some of the ways that your office environment could be killing productivity.

The Furniture Is Bad

This doesn’t sound like it would make that much difference to productivity but it actually has a huge effect. When you’re first starting out, it’s important that you know where to spend and where to save, and a lot of business owners assume that office chairs aren’t something that you should be spending much on at all. But you’ve got to remember that your employees are going to be sitting at their desk all day long, 5 days a week. If they’re sat on a cheap chair that doesn’t offer them any support, they’ll be uncomfortable and they’ll constantly have a bad back.

If their work environment isn’t comfortable, it’s a lot harder for them to concentrate on their work properly. It might seem like a waste of money but investing in some decent chairs and desks can actually make a big difference. You could even let employees choose their own furniture (within a budget, of course) so they can set up the ideal work space for themselves.

It’s Dirty

A dirty office is one of the worst crimes you can commit against productivity. If the office is dirty and unpleasant to be in, people aren’t going to be able to focus on work. It also gives them the impression that you aren’t really bothered about creating a positive work environment for them and if you can’t be bothered to do that, why should they care about working hard for you? On top of that, a dirty office breeds bacteria and illness so you’ll get more people taking sick days. That’s why it’s important that you get a professional company like Orca Cleaning Services to come in regularly and give the office a good clean. You should also encourage employees to pick up after themselves and keep their own work area clean and tidy.

It’s Dark

Studies show that natural light has a huge impact on productivity. People that are working in a bright office with plenty of sunlight coming through the windows work a lot better than people that are stuck in a dingy cubicle with no windows and fluorescent lights. You should consider this when you’re choosing an office and try to rearrange the layout so all of the desks are getting a good amount of natural light.

If you’re making any of these mistakes in your office, you need to sort them out right away. If you don’t, productivity is going to suffer.
